After graduating from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University (1996), Börekçi completed his post-graduate thesis, “The French Revolution and the Ottomans: Popular Images of ‘Liberty Equality-Fraternity’ in Late Ottoman Iconography, 1908-1912” at the history department of the same university (1999). Börekçi became a professor of history at Ohio State University (2010) after writing his thesis; “Factions and Favorites at the Courts of Sultan Ahmed I (r. 1603-17) and his Immediate Predecessors.” His main fields of interest are early modern Ottoman political, military and social history, and comparative 17th century crises; Börekçi has prepared an article for publishing with Ahmet Arslantürk entitled “Governor Feridun Ahmed and the work entitled: Nüzheti Esrâü’l Ahyâr der Ahbârı Seferi Sigetvar”, and has had a number of articles published in various journals. He joined the Istanbul Şehir team in 2010.
