University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) is a leading public research university in the United States and Istanbul Sehir University (SEHIR) is a newly-founded university which aims to be an elite research university in the whole region.
SEHIR and the UW–Madison agree to cooperate and collaborate in order to promote better understanding and secure mutual benefits for their institutions, countries and communities.
Through this agreement between UW-Madison and SEHIR, exchange of teaching personnel will be possible. SEHIR may send to UW-Madison its personnel for sabbatical leave, training etc. SEHIR may receive help from the scholars at UW-Madison to develop its curricula and library system. SEHIR and UW-Madison may undertake joint research projects in Turkey, USA or any European country.
This collaboration counts in the Center for Turkish Studies at UW-Madison and the Division of International Studies.
George Mason University
Istanbul Sehir University has signed a bilateral agreement with George Mason University, USA’s fastest growing university. The agreement allows for collaboration in research matters between the students and faculty of the two universities.
A general framework document related to the bilateral agreement was signed on June 17 by the directors of George Mason University, one of the world’s top 100 universities, and Istanbul Şehir University. The agreement was effected in the presence of George Mason University’s President, Alan G. Merten and Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jack Censer, and Şehir University’s President, Gökhan Çetinsaya, Dr. Mustafa Özel and other faculty members.
The general framework agreement is, besides essentially being a mutual recognition of the two universities, an agreement to exchange students and faculty and cooperate in doing research. According to the agreement, students who complete the Preparatory Program at Istanbul Sehir University will be able to receive language and culture education at George Mason University in the summer term. Likewise, George Mason students will be able to spend a semester at Istanbul Sehir University. Also, Sehir University faculty members will be able to do research at George Mason for certain teaching terms. In addition, the two universities will do shared research on programs such as Conflict Resolution. Istanbul Sehir University may also contribute to regional studies at George Mason in fields such as History, Conflict Resolution, International Relations, Turkish Language and Literature, Sociology and Anthropology.
America’s Fastest Growing University...
Founded in America’s capital of Washingon, D.C., George Mason is a new, but fast growing school. George Mason, which was founded in 1957, was selected as America’s fastest growing university in a research project done by the Princeton Review in 2009. With America’s second largest Global Education program, George Mason was also the first school to offer Ph.D. programs in IT (Information Technology), Cultural Studies and Conflict Resolution. In its Department of Economics, there are two Nobel Prize-winning Economists.
With respect to religion, language and ethnicity, George Mason is America’s most diverse university. It positions itself as a global university and gives special importance to its global themed undergraduate and graduate programs. George Mason is currently operating exchange programs in 30 countries at 60 universities. These exchanges, mostly summer programs, winter term break programs, and semester exchanges, take the form of direct student exchanges or internships. Within George Mason, there are 71 undergraduate, 74 master’s and 31 Ph.D. programs. In total, for the more than 100 programs and research centers, it has a research budget of more than 1 billion dollars.
George Mason’s strongest research programs are in Information Technology (IT), Organizational Psychology, Health Care, the Visual and Performing Arts, Conflict Analyses and Resolution, Public Policy, Climate Change, Bioinformatics, Economics and Law.
China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL)
China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) is a multidisciplinary research university directly under the Ministry of Education. The University focuses on law, accompanied with a variety of other disciplines such as philosophy, economics, literature, science and management. There are two campuses, both in Beijing: Fuxue Road of Changping District and Xueyuan Road of Haidian District.
In its 50 years’ development, CUPL has fostered more than 200,000 graduates of different levels, taken part in virtually every legislation activity of the state since its foundation and led the jurisprudence theoretical innovation as well as the legal conceptual renewal of China, representing its international exchanges in the field of law. CUPL now has 14007 full-time students, including 8414 undergraduates, 4324 postgraduates and 248 overseas students. It currently has a faculty of 898 members, among which 109 are doctoral advisers, 587 are professors or associate professors, 83.7% have master’s degrees of above.
The university has established international relationships with about 100 other universities of more than 20 different countries or regions.
Hundreds of teachers or students are sent abroad each year for study and exchange. Along with the development of joint-education programs in its schools such as the School of EU and Comparative Law, the pattern of fostering international legal talent has taken form.
The motto of the university is “law and virtue in mind, to inquire for the sake of mankind”.
The goal of the university is to build CUPL into an internationally recognized, multidisciplinary, research oriented legal university.
