ŞEHİR Students Made Presentation in Central European University

ŞEHİR History Department Students Fatma Aladağ, Muhammed Mazı and Abdullah Güloğlu made presentation in the international conference that organized by Central European University.
İstanbul Şehir University History Department students Fatma Aladağ, Muhammed Mazı and Abdullah Güloğlu made presentation in the “Tradition and Innovation in Historical Perspectives” conference that organized by Central European University. After the conference ŞEHİR students shared their experiences with an interview.

Fatma Aladağ presented her article titled "Assimilation of Innovation: Ottoman Nizamiye Court System in the 19th century, as a Global Modernization Period in the Local Context"  and analyzed the transformation process from empires to modern nation states of 19th century empires based on “reformation and tradition” relations in universal context. Muhammet Mazı’s article "Rethinking Modernization in the Ottoman Empire and Russia amidst Invention and Reinterpretation of Tradition" firstly focused on differentiation of modernization and westernization concepts. He aimed at rethinking on classical theories of Russian and Ottoman modernizations and offering a new frame about conservative modernization as a type of modernization. Abdullah Güloğlu compared the history of book culture based on printing press both in Ottoman Empire and Holly Roman Empire. He questioned different paths of Ottoman and Holy Roman Empire in this case with his article "Rethinking the Concept of Innovation in the Cases of Printing Press in Germany and the Ottoman Empire in between 1500-1550".
