Center for Modern Turkish Studies
The Center for Modern Turkish Studies supports the creation of knowledge within the context of social sciences and humanities by its high quality research dealing with the issues of our country by focusing on the last two centuries.
​The center aims to be a resource for reliable knowledge, fruit of an independent research in order to call for attention of the international community of scholars to the field of Turkish Studies. Its major goal is to become a center of attraction by establishing an international network of researchers and scholars from different disciplines specializing on Turkey. The Center runs an M.S. Program on Modern Turkish Studies within the Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities since and organizes national and international seminars and conferences and publishes reports and papers. Our program is supported by more than 20 full-time faculty members and instructors from Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, History, Law, Literature, Communication and Islamic Studies as well as faculty members and experts from other fields and institutions. Language of instruction is English. We have 25 graduate students. Additionally, Center for Modern Turkish Studies organizes short-term special programs and summer schools providing the analytical and in-depth knowledge about Turkey to those who work at the international institutions and think tanks and to the policymakers.  

Visiting Researchers Program​

The program is designated to provide researchers who would like to work on Turkish studies with the university ID, library use and other research opportunities as well as a scientific environment in relation to their studies. This program aims to share the gradually increasing accumulation of scientific knowledge and to develop relations between the institutions.

Visiting researchers may apply for short and long terms.

The Center for Modern Turkish Studies- visiting researchers program admits applications from related faculty members, senior researchers, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and graduate researchers. 

There are four types of visiting researcher positions at the Center:

    • Visiting Scholars/Researchers
    • Visiting Scholar
    • Postdoctoral Fellow
    • Visiting Fellow - dissertation research 

Expectations from Visiting Researchers 

Visiting Researchers Program aims to provide both ŞEHİR and visiting researchers with a rich academic environment and intends to enable them exchange scientific information by seminars, conferences, and discussions. At the end of the proposed period, visiting researchers will present a paper relating their projects. In case of bilateral approval, the works of the visiting researchers will be published among the publications of the Center for Modern Turkish Studies. 

Admission Requirements:

Researchers wishing to apply for the Visiting Researchers Program must submit below documents:

    • Researcher proposal must be on a field within the scope of work of the Center for Modern Turkish Studies.
    • CV
    • Application Cover Letter (just a two page text- cover letter specifying why you apply for the Center and/or program)
    • Publication sample, if any
    • Work Program

After the completion of required documents, they must be sent to the below address by e-mail and/or mail. 

Means provided for all visiting researchers who are admitted in the Center:
    • University ID
    • Unlimited access to the Library. Our library can bring any demanded book on the research subject.
    • A fully equipped desk (phone, stationery etc)
    • Printout and photocopy support (at an amount determined by the Center/University administration)
    • Dining support (at an amount determined by the Center/University administration)
    • Computer technical support
    • Computer (within the bounds of possibility)
    • University buses (within the bounds of possibility)

In addition to the above-mentioned oppurtunies,

    • Support can be provided for participation in scientific meetings (conference, workshop etc.) on condition to publish papers and considering the time passed at the Center.
    • Assistant support considering their research and time passed at the Center (within the bounds of possibility)
    • Health Insurance considering their research and time passed at the university (optional)
    • Accommodation support (within the bounds of possibility)
    • Assistant and scientific meeting participation support can be revised by the Center’s Board of Directors in return for researcher’s lecture.​
