Tufan Buzpınar received his B.A from Ankara University (1984), M.A (1986) and PhD (1991) from the University of Manchester. Between 1992 and 2001, he worked for the Centre for Islamic Studies, first as a research fellow, then as head of the researchers and finally as the director of the Centre. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Council of Higher Education from 2012 to 2016 in Ankara. He is a member of the Committee of Turkish History and Civilization of the Encyclopaedia of Islam in Turkish. His major fields of specialization are Jewish immigration into Palestine from the late 1870s until the First World War, Ottoman Rule in Syria and the Hijaz during the nineteenth century. Prof. Buzpınar’s publications include: Caliphate and Sultanate: Caliphate and the Arabs during the Reign of Abdulhamid II (in Turkish), Istanbul 2016. He has published numerous articles in English and Turkish.
