The winners of 2016 TÜBA International Academy Prizes have been announced.
Prof. Şerif Mardin, Faculty Member of İstanbul Şehir University Sociology Department, has been granted the TÜBA International Academy Prize in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities in recognition of his pioneering and ground-breaking scientific studies on religion and modernization in Turkey, civil society and ideology, along with center-periphery and neighborhood-school relations in Turkey.
Launched in 2015 by the Turkish Academy of Sciences, TÜBA International Academy Prizes are given in three categories, namely Basic and Engineering Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Nominations to TÜBA Academy Prizes are made by the science academies around the world, university presidencies, TÜBA members, and other science institutions and scientists invited by TÜBA as nominators. The international Academy Prizes, given to scientists with original, leading and path-breaking works in their fields, are awarded to scientists with Turkish connection, meaning those who work in Turkey and/or study Turkey.
As part of the first TÜBA International Academy Prizes, which were granted last year, the prize in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities was given to Mehmet Genç, Faculty Member of İstanbul Şehir University History Department.
The prize ceremony for 2016 TÜBA International Academy Prizes will be held under the auspices of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Turkey.
