İstanbul Şehir University Center for Modern Turkish Studies (CEMTS) is currently accepting applications for Visiting Fellows who have an interest in studying Modern Turkey. The Visiting fellowship program aims to provide an efficient academic environment through mutual share of expertize in the form of seminars, conferences, and debates. CEMTS provides research facilities for fellows, including a fully equipped shared office, access to the library and full participation in the academic and social activities of the center for a period of one or two semesters in accordance with needs of the research. CEMTS will also arrange introductions to the libraries and other institutions in Istanbul and Turkey relevant to research needs. CEMTS will facilitate researcher's inclusion into Turkish academic circles.
Visiting fellows are expected to present their work in seminars and discuss their research informally with members of the Center. Visiting fellows are also encouraged to contribute to seminars, classes and other teaching and research activities of the Center.
CEMTS will support applications to different scholarship programs for visiting scholars, including Turkiye Scholarship and TÜBİTAK scholarship. Due to financial restrictions of the institution, those who have been granted a scholarship in advance will be prioritized in the admission process.
CEMTS carries out interdisciplinary studies at the İstanbul Şehir University. Since its foundation in 2011, CEMTS progressed considerably in its effort to function as an independent resource center and a center of excellence meeting the growing needs for credible, visible, and leading-edge academic voices regarding Turkish studies. The Center has been engaged in organizing international academic meetings, conferences, workshops, and solo talks on critical issues concerning Turkey. Eminent national and international scholars, noted public figures, prominent policy makers, and lawmakers have been frequent participants in the academic activities of the CEMTS. The Center also offers a visiting researcher program in which 27 scholars from 20 different countries participated so far. Additionally, CEMTS organizes brief focused programs and summer schools providing fresh analytical approaches and knowledge about Turkey to those who work at international institutions, media, think tanks, and governmental agencies and policy makers.

We welcome applications from advanced doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and senior academics. Applicants from a variety of disciplines (including political science, international relations, literature, history, law, cultural studies, sociology, economics etc.) will be considered. We also strongly encourage researchers engaged in comparative work (both within the region and between regions and countries) to apply.
