YER : Library Meeting Room
Dr. Umut Eldem, Boğaziçi University Philosophy Department
In this presentation Dr. Eldem shall discuss Kant‘s conception of conscience via a detailed examination of his critical writings and lecture notes. He aims to show what roles the concept of conscience plays in Kant's moral theory in general. Dr. Eldem shall also elaborate the importance of this concept with regards to Kant's understanding of "natural religion" and "moral education". Kant‘s account of rational judgment, especially in its reflexive aspect, is of vital importance for this endeavor, as is his conception of the moral law, freedom of the will and our form of sensibly affected rational agency.
